About Lamborghini

Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A., commonly known as Lamborghini, is a renowned Italian manufacturer of luxury sports cars and SUVs. The company, based in Sant'Agata Bolognese, is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, owned through Audi. Lamborghini was founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini, an Italian manufacturing magnate, with the aim of competing with Ferrari. The company gained recognition for its unique use of a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout.

History of Lamborghini

Lamborghini experienced rapid growth during its first decade, but the 1973 worldwide financial downturn and the oil crisis led to a significant drop in sales. The company underwent several changes in ownership after 1973, including a bankruptcy in 1978. The American Chrysler Corporation took control of Lamborghini in 1987 and later sold it to a Malaysian investment group, Mycom Setdco, and an Indonesian group, V'Power Corporation, in 1994. In 1998, Lamborghini was sold to the Volkswagen Group and placed under the control of Audi.

Lamborghini Today

Despite the challenges, Lamborghini has continued to innovate and expand its product and model lines. The company currently produces the V10-powered Huracán, the Urus SUV powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine, and plans to produce the Revuelto, a V12/electric hybrid, by 2024. Lamborghini also produces V12 engines for offshore powerboat racing. In addition to its automobile production, Lamborghini Trattori, founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1948, continues to produce tractors in Pieve di Cento, Italy.
